What we do and why we do it

Local Majority is focused on an over-looked niche in the political world: supporting campaigns for state legislature where candidates have very few resources. State legislation not only create laws that affect the everyday lives of their constituents, they also play a critical role in determining the districts for the US House of Representatives and thus the fate of the entire country. LM provides research that is practical and accessible for state district campaigns. Acting as their personal research department, we distill national research studies and put together packets with specific and targeted information for candidates’ campaigns to support their efforts.

Republicans made Virginia one of the hardest states in the union to vote[1]:

No early voting
Restricted absentee balloting
Not enough polling places, created 2-hour waits in some Black and Latino neighborhoods

Dems win Virginia’s statewide popular vote, but Republicans have majorities in the State House and Senate because of gerrymandering. Republicans drew the district lines to artificially create a majority of right-leaning districts.

Virginia Republicans repeatedly blocked expansion of Medicaid. They blocked the infusion of $2.2 billion in federal dollars into the Commonwealth’s economy, and the creation of over 15,000 jobs, making average salaries of $60K a year. And oh yeah: they denied 400,000 Virginians access to health insurance. Link here
